Koi Pond Log October 2009
Oct. 3, 2009 - Cleaned off skimmer pads. Cold and windy day, air temperature is 51 degrees. Skimmed leaves off the surface of the pond.
Oct. 4, 2009 - Water temperature is 52 degrees. Added 8oz of Microbe-Lift Fall/Winter bacteria.
Oct. 8, 2009 - Added three scoops of Koi Clay in a 5-gallon bucket.
Oct. 10, 2009 - Took the following out of the pond area: Herons, large air pump, and trimmed down the corner grass plants. Put in the winter air pump and float. Fed the Koi for the last time, water temp is 48 degrees. Cleaned off the light lenses.
Oct. 11, 2009 - Cut off all plants and sunk to the bottom of the pond. Put in last 8oz of Microbe-Lift PL. Completed fall pond area clean-up.
Oct. 18, 2009 - Shut off the pump at 9:30 am. Began the long process of getting ready for winter.
Removed and cleaned pump. (Pump is in great condition)
Opened up red valves on 30 gallon barrels, and drained all the water. (A lot of green string algae)
Removed lava rock. (Sunk two bags to the shelf to be used in the spring)
Pumped out the skimmer and removed mats. (I noticed some very small black or dark brown worms in the very bottom of the blue Matala Mat.
Pressure washed the mats and the barrels.
Removed the pond lights.
Put air line into skimmer.
Took out UV system. (I don't think this worked very well, got it cheap off eBay.)
Put black netting over the entire pond area.
Finished at 2:30 pm (5 hours of steady work.)
Pond is Closed for WINTER
Oct. 30, 2009 - Pumped water out of pond after 4" of rain during the week.
